Helena Police Department Issues Media Release on Sexual Abuse Case

The Helena Police Department has issued a media release concerning a case of alleged sexual abuse reported on December 5, 2022. The victim’s report prompted an investigation led by the Helena Police Department Detective Bureau.

The accused, Richard Bailey Granger, formerly associated with Helena Middle School, relocated from Helena prior to the investigation. Notably, the allegations against Mr. Granger are unrelated to his time at the school. Justice knows no geographical boundaries, and law enforcement was resolute in seeking the truth.

In August 2023, a Shelby County Grand Jury indicted Mr. Granger on two counts of sodomy 1st and seven counts of sexual abuse 1st. This marked a critical milestone in the legal process, as accountability for the alleged offenses began to take shape.

On October 2, 2023, Richard Bailey Granger was apprehended by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office in Florida under a fugitive from justice warrant linked to the Grand Jury Indictments in Shelby County. Currently, Mr. Granger remains in the custody of the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, awaiting extradition to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

It is crucial to uphold the principles of justice, as Mr. Granger is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The legal process is underway, and the pursuit of truth and justice remains unwavering.

This case underscores the importance of individuals coming forward to report incidents of abuse and the dedication of law enforcement agencies in seeking justice. As the case continues to develop, we remain committed to providing updates on this path toward accountability and resolution. Stay tuned for further developments in this ongoing investigation.
