White Christmas in Pelenabaster This Year?!
Ah, the perennial dream of a snow-draped holiday season—a White Christmas in Pelham, Helena and Alabaster. Every December, just as the first twinkle lights grace our windows and pine-scented candles fill our homes, someone asks the magical question: “Will it snow on Christmas?”

Let’s cut right to the chase, Pelenabaster. The answer is… drumroll, please… almost certainly no.
Alabama and Snow: A (Mostly) Unrequited Love Story

Climatology doesn’t exactly have Alabama pegged as a winter wonderland. Our chances of waking up to snowflakes glittering on Christmas morning hover near zero. Historically, Central Alabama, including our beloved Pelenabaster, has had about as much luck with White Christmases as a snowman in July. Even Birmingham, just a stone’s throw away, has never officially reported measurable snow on Christmas Day.
But wait—there’s a glimmer of hope for the romantics among us. In 2010, a rare Christmas snowfall dusted parts of North and Central Alabama. While Birmingham itself missed the mark thanks to the Urban Heat Island effect, nearby areas outside the city limits got a magical (albeit brief) taste of winter. Anniston even measured a whole inch at the airport!
Other near misses in Alabama’s history include:
- Trace snow in Birmingham on Christmas Day in 1993, 1989, and 1899.
- A tantalizing snowfall on December 22, 1929, when Birmingham recorded 5.5 inches—alas, all gone by Christmas morning.

The Cold Hard Truth (And a Warm Hug for Snow Lovers)

So what about this year? The odds are stacked against us, friends. Statistically speaking, you’re more likely to see a reindeer in your backyard wearing sunglasses and sipping sweet tea than to see snow sticking to the ground on December 25.
That said, weather can be fickle. Christmas miracles aren’t out of the question, and stranger things have happened. Keep an eye on the forecast and a sprinkle of hope in your heart.

Dreaming of Snow? Here’s How to Fake It in Pelenabaster
Let’s not let a lack of snow dampen our holiday cheer. Here’s how to create your own wintry magic:
- Decorate with Frosty Flair: Icicle lights, snowflake garlands, and frosted window clings can bring a snowy vibe indoors.
- Snow in a Can: Spray-on snow might not be the real deal, but it’s festive and makes for adorable holiday photos.
- Frozen Family Fun: Head to the skating rink or whip up a snowball-like dessert to bring a touch of winter to your celebrations.
- Holiday Hikes: Take advantage of our snow-free trails and enjoy a crisp winter walk in the nearby forested areas.
In Pelenabaster, we may not have snow, but we have something even better—a close-knit community and the warmth of the season. Whether it’s 30 degrees or 70, let’s make this Christmas unforgettable.
So, Pelenabaster, are you ready to embrace the season, snow or no snow? We sure are!
